Queen Wembley – Freddie Mercury
Queen Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, and Brian May and Roger Taylor joined forces with Freddie Mercury called themselves Queen John Deacon joined shortly afterwards. Queen had had two successful albums Queen and Queen11 by 1974 but Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera gained them international success. Then followed “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which stayed at number one in the UK for nine weeks; it got to number one in several other countries also giving the band their first top ten hit in the US. Their News of the World album, contains “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” two of the most well known tracks recorded. By the 1980s, Queen were one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world. In 1985’s Live Aid Queen stole the show is regarded as one of the greatest in rock gigs in history. In 1991, Freddie sadly died of bronchopneumonia, John Deacon retired in 1997.The band have released 18 number one albums, 18 number one singles, and 10 number one DVDs. Estimates of their album sales generally range from 150 million to 300 million albums, making them one of the world’s best-selling music artists. Long live Queen.
